Pattani Sundal | White Peas Sundal

I have been wanting to try this Pattani Sundal ever since a friend made this for Navratri. This is very tasty and Amma used to make it when we were kids!

Love the White Peas that are firm but soft as you eat! Very nutritive snack.

Pattani Sundal | White Peas Sundal

Ingredients:
1 cup Pattani | White Peas, dried
1 Green Chilli, finely chopped
1/8 tsp Haldi | Turmeric Powder
1/2 tsp Rai | Mustard Seeds
1/2 tsp Urad Dal
1 tblsp Fresh Dhania | Coriander Leaves, finely chopped
1 tsp Oil
To taste Salt

Method:
  • Wash and soak the Pattani for 12 hours. For best results, soak it overnight to make it the next day. Drain the soaked Pattani, add Haldi and pressure cook for 8 whistles. Once the pressure is released, remove the cooked Pattani and keep aside.
  • In a frying pan, heat the oil.
  • Add Rai and Urad dal. When the Rai splutters, add the cooked Pattani, chopped green chillies, Mix well.
  • Keep the flame on low, cover cook for 2 minutes.
  • Remove the cover and mix well. Let it cook for about a minute and then switch off the gas.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve as a tea time snack!
You may even add some grated coconut to this Pattani Sundal. down South, you may find this Sundal being sold in the beaches...with two ingredients that create the magic of eating street food - onions, raw mangoes and the squeeze of lemon...its called Thenga Manga Pattani Sundal.

When we make this as naivedhyam during Navrati, we do not add any onions and mango.
