Cabbage Carrot Peas Thoran

Normally along with Sambhar | Rasam | Spicy Curry like Vathakozhambu, a non spicy Thoran is made. Cabbage Carrot Peas Thoran is one of such preparations. It is very easy to make and we have made it in a healthier avatar!

Cabbage Carrot Peas Thoran

Ingredients:
1 cup Cabbage, finely chopped
1/4 cup Carrot, finely chopped
1/4 cup Fresh Peas
1/ tsp Haldi | Turmeric Powder
1 tsp Oil
1/2 tsp Channa Dal
1/2 tsp Rai | Mustard Seeds
5 Kadhi Patta | Curry Leaves
To taste Salt

Method:
  • In a kadhai, heat the oil and add rai, channa dal and curry leaves. 
  • When the rai splutters, add all finely chopped cabbage and carrot and fresh peas.
  • Add haldi and salt to taste.
  • Keep the gas on low flame. Mix well and cover and cook for 3 minutes. Do not add any water.
  • After 3 minutes, check if vegetables are cooked. If not, mix well and cover and cook for additional 2 minutes on low flame. Ensure the vegetables do not get stuck to the bottom of the kadhai.
  • Serve the Cabbage Carrot Peas Thoran along with any spicy curry like Karela Vathakozhambu | Sambhar | Rasam. This can also be had with Roti along with some pickles.
This is normally as an accompaniment with a spicy curry, hence no chillies are added to this Thoran. In case you want to make it spicy, add finely chopped green chillies as per taste while adding the chopped vegetables.

You can also add grated coconut as a garnish to make this even more rich!
